Słowiński Landscape Park is a unique protected area on Poland’s Baltic coast, famous for its shifting sand dunes, diverse coastal ecosystems, and rich birdlife, offering exceptional opportunities for hiking, wildlife observation, and beach activities.
Established in 1979, Słowiński Landscape Park (Park Krajobrazowy Dolina Słupi) covers a remarkable coastal area on the southern Baltic Sea shore in northern Poland’s Pomeranian Voivodeship. The park is renowned for its massive mobile sand dunes, some of the largest in Europe, which slowly move inland, creating a dynamic and rare landscape. These dunes reach heights up to 30 meters and are part of a unique system that also includes lakes, peat bogs, forests, and wetlands. It is a haven for diverse flora and fauna, including many rare and protected species, especially birds such as the white-tailed eagle, black stork, and various waterfowl. The park also incorporates parts of the adjacent Łebsko Lake, one of the largest coastal lakes in Poland, which supports a rich fish population and is a critical stopover for migratory birds. Visitors to Słowiński Landscape Park enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, including extensive hiking and cycling trails that meander through forests, along the coast, and among the dunes. The shifting landscapes, including the famous moving dunes near Łeba, offer fantastic photo opportunities and natural exploration. Historical elements are present too, with small villages reflecting traditional Kashubian culture scattered around the park's edges. The park's visitor appeal is strong for nature enthusiasts, families, and bird watchers, offering a unique blend of coastal wilderness and cultural heritage. Facilities include informational centers, marked trails, and viewing platforms to safely experience the fragile dune environments. Summer brings beach tourism, while spring and autumn attract birders and hikers eager to see the park’s rich biodiversity in quieter conditions.
